Spring, Summer and Fall] Yushan Yushan

Yushan is Taiwan's highest peak and the foremost among the Hundred Peaks.
During the Japanese colonial period, Yushan was higher than Japan's Mount Fuji, so it was called Shinhakusan.

Besides Alishan, another mountain inseparably linked to Chiayi is Yushan.
Yushan is Taiwan's highest peak and the foremost among the Hundred Peaks. During the Japanese colonial period, Yushan was higher than Japan's Mount Fuji, and thus it was named Shinhakusan.

Among Taiwan's Hundred Peaks, Yushan of the Bunun, Xueshan of the Atayal, Xiuguluan Mountain and Nanhu Dashan of the Amis, and Beidawu Mountain of the Paiwan are collectively known as the "Five Great Peaks." As East Asia's highest peak, Yushan boasts the most imposing mountain landscape and scale in Taiwan. Beyond being the foremost of Taiwan's Five Great Peaks and the King of the Hundred Peaks, the Yushan range holds invaluable treasures of life.

If you'd like to experience the beauty of Jade Mountain, I'd recommend spending the night in the city the evening before your trip.
You can also experience the bustling atmosphere in front of Chiayi Station, as the early Chiayi locomotive depot served as lodging for hikers before their journeys.

Yushan is another reason you must visit Chiayi besides Alishan.
It is the highest peak among the Hundred Peaks and also the starting point of the Hundred Peaks.

How to get to Yushan:
Take the bus to Alishan National Park, then transfer to Yuen Lin Bus Route 6739 and get off at Tataka.
(We recommend booking your tickets online in advance.)

Accommodation:
Dongpu Mountain Lodge and Paiyun Mountain Lodge both require advance reservations. Paiyun Mountain Lodge requires a lottery draw.

※ Applications for Mount Jade must be submitted 1–2 months in advance and are subject to a lottery system.
※ Yushan National Park observes a quiet period and snow season during which entry is suspended. For detailed information, please visit the Yushan National Park website.
